About the Association

Known for its community involvement, the Lee County Bar Association offers several programs that benefit the population:

•An annual "Law in the Mall" opportunity for citizens of Lee County to receive free legal advice. The event is always held on the Saturday before Law Day (May 1), at the Edison Mall in Fort Myers, from 10 to 2. Individual consultations are given on a wide variety of topics. The public is encouraged to bring all relevant documents with them to "Law in the Mall." At the event, there are also several hourly seminars for general education on topics such as Bankruptcy & Foreclosure, Representing Yourself in Small Claims Court, Family Law, and Simple Wills & Powers of Attorney.
•Lawyer Referral Service links potential new clients with area attorneys. Whether out of state or local, persons seeking attorneys can be confused by the choices in the area. our Lawyer Referral Service has qualified, insured attorneys who are all members in good standing with The Florida Bar. For a $50 administrative fee, the attorney we assign to the client will consult for up to 30 minutes, whether by phone or in person. Contact: lrs@leebar.org or call (239) 334-4491, 9-12 & 1-4, Monday through Friday.
•High School Mock Trial Competitions for Lee County (January) and the five-county Twentieth Circuit (February) coordinate education and challenge for students with area high schools.
•Student Q & A with the Second District Court of Appeal and observance of a live court session in Appellate Court during Law Week. High school seniors and college law students are invited to a session with appellate judges each year. Always preceding oral arguments in Appellate Court, a lively question-and-answer session is attended by over 100 students each year. Students must pre-register through their school.
•Constitution Week School Speakers Program delivers classroom education about The Constitution during the week in which Constitution Day (September 17th) falls, each year. Attorneys and Judges visit Lee County schools to make sure our children understand this important document and its applications in today's world.
•Established Lee Foreclosure Task Force on a grant funded in part by The Florida Bar Foundation, 2008-2009, to assist a burgeoning foreclosure epidemic in the community. No-fee legal advice through Florida Rural Legal Services and a website with current information on foreclosure (through HeroCares, Inc.) continue today, as a result of this initiative.
